Our Melbourne Cup - The Highlights!

This is my third and final follow up post on the series I have run on The Melbourne Cup. Since so many of you asked,  I thought I would post some pictures of the big day out.
We had a sensational time!

There were last minute dramas with clothing choices. My heels had an issue discovered on Cup eve so I abandoned them. Then on Cup day itself I awoke to full sunshine and changed dresses too! I ended up wearing a black chiffon shift dress with a lace taupe overlay feature. It was a perfect match to my fascinator and shoes in the end. Thank god for sales! I have a mini clothing boutique in my wardrobe of shoes and dresses just for occasions such as the Cup - all scored with massive discounts and many items still have the tags on! (Not sure if I should mention that! Own up! I know you are the same too)!

Me and my darling friend Helen!
We arrived around lunchtime at Flemington Racecourse after stopping by Helen's to take these lush snaps of us dressed for occasions we don't get to attend often enough!

Such a gorgeous picture of our girls - Indiana and Paris.
They were so excited to be attending their first Melbourne Cup together.
They spent the day claiming they were 'bored!' Once home, Indiana said she had fun!
Thirteen year olds!
The Cup was sensational! We settled ourselves by the rails on the lawn near fantastic views of roses and galloping horses. Much of our day was spent people watching though! So many incredible outfits on the ladies. Even the men looked fantastic in their vests and trilby hats.
The weather was stunning - not a cloud in the sky. Every imaginable colour was worn by the women and some of the men too. Countless beautiful hats and fascinators, enviable gowns, shoes and bags.
It was so impressive to see Melbourne's fashion taste on display.

Naturally we sipped Yellowglen and toasted the occasion. What a great atmosphere!
To top off the day, our horse WON! Yes, for the second time only in my life, (and the first time for Helen), I picked a winner (Fiorente) and won myself $37.50! WooHoo!

That's THE Melbourne Cup race right there! Truly it is - I was there!

How did you spend your Cup Day?

  1. You look like you had a fab time and how funny is your daughter.. typical teen :)

  2. Oh these photos remind me what a picture perfect day it was to put Melbourne in the spotlight. How lucky were you to actually be there!?! You look like such a glamour - and quite fascinating ;) Love the chance to frock up - what a beautiful treat - thanks for sharing.

  3. So glad you had such a fantastic time! Yes I can imagine the atmosphere was amazing!

  4. Great photo's and you look great! Love your outfit and hat. I'm so glad you had a great day. Usually for Melbourne Cup I'm working (corporate/office) but we all stop and watch it and have a lunch and sweeps and even wear hats or facsinators. One time I took the day off and went to be lunch / fashion parade / fancy do at a local winery. This year I'm not working so did nothing. I did however manage to get myself a bit of adventure on the day (as my latest blog post explains). I've never actually been to the Melbourne Cup. I imagine the atmosphere would be amazing!

  5. Wow what gorgeous girls you have there and those seats - so close? How did you score those? Sounds like a fab day out and glad to see you had a few bubbles. How was the day after? Have you fully recovered from puenomia, my sis actually has it right now also, she's actually run down, so maybe that's what happened to you? Hugs and thanks for making me jealous. I worked, didn't even watch the race (don't tell anyone!)

  6. Your girls are gorgeous! and you…. wasn't it the most perfect melbourne day. I was there too and also had a fab time x

  7. OMG I love your jacket. Details please?!

Thanks for linking up with my One New Thing a Week Challenge. This week we are moving the link up to Tuesday. We also have a new blog series that has just kicked off and would love for you to join us.

  8. Looks like a perfect day, and you look amazing! What an amazing experience for your daughter too :)

  9. Thank you for that blast of sunshine, smiles and beautifully groomed girls who look like they had lots of fun. !

  10. I've just had a year off work after taking a redundancy late last year. But bizarrely a relation asked if I'd like to help out in his office for a couple of weeks while he and his wife are on hols - and of course the two weeks fall over Melbourne Cup today... so I was busy in the office NOT celebrating at all.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and visit my blog! Your comments are appreciated. I read each and every one and do try to respond when I can. Spam will be deleted immediately.
