The Joys Of Baby Wearing - Suppori Baby Slings - A Review and Giveaway...

Without question, your baby is the most precious thing you will ever carry.
I don't believe there is a single thing in life that could ever possibly eclipse in any way, shape or form, the intrinsic and infinite value of a human infant.
After nurturing your baby for 9 months within, the next most wonderful thing you can experience, is the joy of holding them safely in your arms. It is that moment we all long for from the moment of conception and the end-prize for our journey in creating them.

I am a dedicated baby-wearer from way back and I have lovingly carried each of my babies. It is an experience of such primal power: So much love, warmth, nurturing and bonding surrounds a Mother and her child, bound together by a seemingly simple piece of fabric. It is an experience that is so much more than it appears however.

The benefits of baby-wearing are beyond doubt, the very best for a Mother and her child too. There's talk of a reduced incidence of post-natal depression through a strengthening of the maternal bond. Babies who are premature or sick thrive in the natural warmth and soothing rhythm of their Mother's well-equipped bodies. Breastfeeding is optimised and less stigmatised through this natural connection: Access to the breast is unlimited and privacy protected. Baby wearing has benefits that just continue to ripple onwards and upwards.
Baby wearing is pure joy.

I am so pleased to be reviewing the fantastic Suppori baby sling here, and equally happy to be offering one of my lucky readers, an opportunity to experience the convenience and joy of wearing their baby in a Suppori sling of their very own.

I have used many slings in my career as a Mummy. My all time favourite for the newborn and infant stages, has been the trusty Baby Bjorn. It is a very comfortable sling and all of my infants loved being held so securely against me. Those cherished memories will be with me for a lifetime.
Sadly, My Baby Bjorn was always packed back into storage by the time each of my babies reached the age of 6 months. I found they became quite restless and wriggly after this time and I never felt confident about the safety of carrying my babies forward facing either (which is the next stage for the Baby Bjorn sling). Being petite too, I was simply overwhelmed by the sheer size of my infants at this age and struggled to bear their weight on my front.

Here's where the Suppori sling comes into its own. Suppori slings are designed for the older baby who has head and neck control and can maintain their posture in an upright position when carried. Suppori slings are suited to babies from the age of six months (7kgs) until around 3 years or 15kgs.

The Suppori is such a simple idea and it is this fact that makes it so wonderful! I am totally in love with this sling and I would say in absolute honesty, it is one of the best baby products I have ever had the pleasure to use. There are no fancy anythings to this sling unlike some on the market, and yet it is this 'barest minimum' aspect of this product which makes it shoot to the top of my recommended buys for babies list.
This is a sling that has everything: comfort, style, convenience and effectiveness - all bound together.

The Suppori is basically a sash type sling fully constructed in a strong-weave, breathable fabric and is available in a range of size and colour options. The brilliance of this sling is the stretch it exhibits when worn. Being fitted lengthwise to the wearer, its science lies in the expansion of its fabric width-ways to support baby's body in the most natural of  Mother / baby holds; baby is carried on the hip and has his or her naturally occurring c-curve of their spine fully complimented. Hips are supported beautifully with little knees tucked higher, just how nature intended and likewise as recommended by Paediatric specialists.

Unlike so many slings on the market, the Suppori is so simple to use. (No complicated wrapping involving metres of fabric and confusing instructions). Just pop it over your head, place the narrow end over your shoulder / upper arm (deltoid muscle) and slide baby into the large 'seat' area. This sling takes a tiny 30 seconds to pop baby into and you are off! I cannot tell you how wonderful and liberating the Suppori has been for me! With 6 kids, nothing is ever easy or quick around here but with the addition of this brilliant product to my nappy bag, I am getting around with so much more freedom and speed these days.
School drop offs no longer involve prams and associated time-wasting. I simply slide the Suppori on, slip baby in and away we go. This sling allows me so many freedoms and I am thrilled to be able to keep up with my other children as an offset bonus.

Another benefit of the Suppori is portability. Being mesh it weighs hardly anything (less than an iPhone) and rolls up to not much more in size. It can be carried in a bag or pocket without bulk.
There are so many great points about the mesh construction too. The Suppori can be worn in water so you can take baby into the sea or pool for some fun time together. It is quick drying too, so when it needs washing, there's no down-time waiting for it to dry. Neither Mum or baby will overheat in the breathable design and it can be worn for up to two hours (recommended timeframe) without making you sweat uncomfortably.
Comfort-wise, this sling's a dream! The best part of the sling for me has been the fact that I can prolong the enjoyment of carrying my baby in this. Baby's weight is spread across your entire upper body and hip meaning you won't get a sore back from any strained points. Being designed to rest on the deltoid muscle, there is no tension on the neck or upper back unlike other slings which place pressure on these areas. I am amazed by my ability to continue to carry my baby at her current weight, with ease. We go for lots of walks now using the sling alone which is something I have never been able to do before now.

The Suppori is well worth the $57.95 price tag. You can view the gorgeous range of colours or purchase a Suppori on the LittleM website here. There are conditions users should be aware of when baby wearing so please visit here to see how to correctly wear a baby of any age. Please remember a sling is an aid and a wearer should always be aware of the safety of their little passenger first and foremost.

And what about Celeste? What does she think? She loves it! We are a very happy pair using this brilliant sling.

  1. I love baby wearing! I discovered it when #2 was 6 weeks old and struggling with reflux, and have worn al, of them since!

  2. I love baby wearing Hayley, its so comforting having them so close. We have the Woogi Woo wrap, but it only goes up to 10kg and shes already 9.89kg at 9 months! I can't figure out all the straps on the other carriers so the Suppori Sling would be great because I can hip carry her and I don't need to fiddle with buckles!

  3. Can't speak highly enough about babywearing. It's especially great over Winter when it's just nice to snuggle without getting a sore back. Would love to win one of these :)

  8. These look fab! I wish I'd gotten the memo on babywearing much earlier with my son. Finally cottoned on to its awesomeness around the 4 month mark but gosh, i could have really done with wearing him in those early months! I'm planning on wearing number two CONSTANTLY when she finally arrived!

  9. These look fantastic and so comfy. I love baby wearing. I wore Dora all over the Pacific when hubs had shoulder surgery right before our cruise. She managed to sleep on my chest for about 2 hours while we waited for the charter boat to pick us up from the Isle of Pines. The heavens had opened and we were lucky to be standing under one of the only shelters near the warf. We were ankle deep in water and she was as snug as a bug.

  10. I've always stopped carrying baby at 9 months in my baby bjorn, but I'd love to try a sling with Magdalene and with my next bub. I love being hands free while bub is close to my chest or side. :)

  11. Baby wearing is such an incredible experience and you described it so beautifully. I wore my second born close to me but didn't with my first, which I regret. The sling looks like such a great product - definitely a lot more portable than the one I had!

  13. A very interesting review, I'll have to check it out. I've always enjoyed the concept of baby wearing, and found it a lot easier when running in to the shops to do a few things, but being petite the baby bjorn never seemed to sit well and feel secure (even if it were). So sadly, I stopped using it.

  14. I love my Breeze baby sling as it is easy to clean and perfect for carrying bub when in water

  16. My son's almost 20 & his half -siblings are all at school now, so it's a long time since I wore a baby. When he was small there wasn't such a variety of products around, and those that were available were all straps & buckles. This one looks good - easy and compact. My son's Dad is from West Africa so I was very interested in learning to carry him on my back, & that's what I usually did. He was hardly ever in a stroller or pram. You remind me that I wrote a blog post about it a few years ago, please check it out it if you're interested. http://maamej.wordpress.com/2008/12/07/a-baby-for-my-back/

  17. I wish I had reason to have one of these, they look great and I just loved wearing my youngest baby (I don't know why I didn't know about it for the first two)!

  18. Unfortunately I never got into baby wearing when my son was small, it all had to do with a lot of fears I had about him suffocating and my PND didn't help with that, I seemed to worry about everything and had horrible thoughts. When I have my next baby though I am DEFINITELY going to give it a try and although I'm not pregnant yet, I've been closely looking out for recommended slings and this one looks great and very comfy for baby and Mum!

  19. I love the closeness and bonding of baby wearing!

  20. I started baby wearing over seven years ago when my oldest child was born. I started with an old school Hotslings, and I feel in love. I am mostly a wrapper these days, the babies later, but I still love s pouch for those quick in and out trips!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I wwould love to give it a go as I'm in search of the perfect sling. I have no help with my kids apart from my hubby and a free arm will be very handy

    ReplyDelete
  22. These look gorgeous. So light and simple and love the colour! I never wore my baby. I tried the baby bjorn for both, but they hated it. I wish I had a sling back then :)

  23. I never got to do the baby wearing things when my boys were babies. With my first, there were no comfortable carriers I could find and by comfy I mean for both of us. That has changed so much in 12 years as there are so many beautiful carriers. My other too I didnt get to carry because I was in a wheel chair or on crutches and when I see mum's wearing their beautiful bubs like you are in those gorgeous pics, I actually feel a pang of envy. I can only imagine how safe and connected your little one must feel... and the way she looks at you? Ohhhh melt! Happy Mothers day lovely xx

  25. i havent used one as i have always been nervous, but this looks like its great quality...would love to win this and give it a go!

  26. I have never had a baby carrier but I know that I want something light weight and something that allows me to just duck into the shops with baby in, instead of the pram.

  27. I have always been a baby-carrying fan. I have used 2 different slings and 2 different front carriers for my 4 babies. I'm due to have my 5th baby in 3 weeks and I'm really looking forward to wearing her, too. The Suppori Baby sling looks really comfortable for mum and bub. Thanks for reviewing.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I haven't really been a baby carrier as my two have always loved the pram, however with number 3 due in August, I don't believe my 3 yr old will be easily kicked off my limo pusher so its going to be very likely I might just have to carry the new bubba. I will be thankful to win this prize and try it. Thanks for the review.

  29. Babywearing rocks. You can carry them around and still have two hands free to have your ice cream and go on Facebook!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Never have.... Carrying bub seems like an art,
    But this Suppori is smart.
    Keeps them close and secure,
But being hands-free is the main lure!

  31. I love how baby wearing has become more of the norm rather than the exception in motherhood. The Suppori looks very versatile and yet so comfortable for mum and bub to use.

    1. It has finally become the norm hasn't it?! When I had my first, baby-wearing was only for hippies - how things have changed!

  32. Babywearing is great, it keeps my little close and safe and lets me get around and do what needs to be done.
I would love to win a Suppori as my little one is getting older now and always wants to be close to mum, this will be a win win for both of us - she can be close to mum while I can still get about and do things.

  35. I juts love baby wearing also! It really is primal and so comforting to both you and baby. I love the fact that sling is so easy and folds up so small. It sounds like it was supportive for your back also?

It's a form of bonding and comfort, she can feel my heartbeat and warmth and I get to snuggle her in close. I wish I'd discovered it when she was smaller, the bigger she got the more independent and away from me she wanted to be

  37. These look great and easy to use - I've carried my newphen in another type of sling that took me 20 mins just to get it on!!
