This week we had the pleasure of attending an exclusive PR event in Melbourne to experience the LEGO Brick Zone and meet Ryan McNaught - the only certified LEGO Master Builder in the Southern Hemisphere and one of only 13 in the world at that.

The Brick Man himself - Ryan McNaught, talks all things LEGO and explains the inspiration and effort behind each of his models. This was great stuff!
The Love Boat - complete with actual scenes from the 1970's TV show built-in.
A cutaway of the Sydney Opera House - one of Ryan's most challenging builds to date thanks to the sails on the roof and window features. (I believe the real thing was a similar challenge!)
Australia's Elvis Erikson Helicopter.
This impressive rocket; too tall to frame in this photograph and reinforced with steel for extra strength.
The kids enjoyed an included screening of The LEGO Movie at the conclusion of the event which marked Celeste's first ever visit to a cinema - complete with a tub of popcorn as big as herself.
What a fantastic day!

The Lego post!! I babysat for a child not long back and he had a whole Lego room! As did his Dad. Between them they had some amazing models and collectibles!

ReplyDeleteSuch a talent. I had so many questions and sadly not enough time to ask more than a few. I did discover that Ryan begins each model at its most challenging section and builds around it from there. He also does not use computers to plot his designs as it is considered cheating! All of the models are handmade originals which is absolutely incredible. (Yes that is Claire in the background who I had the pleasure of meeting amongst others!)
DeleteWow, look at that! I absolutely love lego and loved it when I was a kid. Elliott doesn't have any lego just yet as I had been worried it was too small, but I actually think he'll be ok. I wrote an article for a brisbane website on a lego activity open in the school holidays and can't wait to take Elliott along. I haven't ever seen the lego movie though.
ReplyDeleteKids of all ages and both sexes enjoy LEGO. It is one of the most valuable toys you will ever own. I loved it as a child and still do too. The movie is hilarious and has a very catchy theme song!

ReplyDeleteI should have mentioned too that the models are motorised - the propeller on the helicopter rotates, the rocket had vents to produce dry ice plumes - all so amazing!
