Hippo Blue Review and Giveaway #SLHFeaturedThursdays

So I've just got to ask you, since the year has commenced - Have your kids lost anything yet?

Here's a wee list of missing items I am tracking down so far in these early weeks of the school year:

A school hat.
A pencil case.
Various lunch box containers.
A cake container.
A toddler drink bottle.

...And that's just what I am aware of so far.

My little lovelies most likely have not yet noticed the extent of their oversight with their possessions. I am dreading what else I will find missing in action as the weeks progress. Wish me luck.

There's only one sure-fire way to guarantee your kids' possessions return home with them each day no matter where they trot or what their age and that is to label them - which of course, all good parents do, right?

I label everything with a big, black, ugly Texta and yes, it sort of works. Certainly the teachers and parents who care to read the scrawled names will return these found items, but my kids?; they rarely care to look and if I'm entirely honest - they don't really care that much at all either.

So how do we get around this issue of carelessness in our kids where their possessions are concerned and imbue a sense of pride and interest in their things?

Solution: Personalisation.

Now you're probably thinking that scribbling ownership in Texta all over everything is personalisation, but I am talking about fun, kid-relatable, exciting personalisation here: Think pre-printed goods all packaged up sweetly and prettily to give them this sense of pride and care about their things.

Something that screams "It's mine and I'm keeping it close!"

Thank you Hippo Blue for seeing a need and filling it. Hippo Blue are an Australian owned online retailer who manufacture a gorgeous range of personalised goods for kids: Name labels, wall stickers, bags and height charts and more - they've got it all.

Hippo Blue have reached out sent us a couple of their goods to road test here and share with you and we're pretty happy with them:

Celeste is enamoured with her new pink backpack from Hippo Blue which makes her feel all grown up like the big kids. This medium sized bag is just right for this pint-sized person and will see her through for years with its adjustable straps.

The backpack has been personalised with our own choice of design and font as available on the Hippo Blue website. I anticipate no more lost things and the sense of pride for her is huge. Despite not being able to read yet, this little person somehow knows that the word on the front of her bag is her name so hands off everyone!

The bag is great quality in medium weight canvas but not at all heavy to carry. It's good-looking and practical and would make an ideal gift. Pictured is the medium backpack and it is priced at $39.45 and is available in a huge variety of designs and fonts for boys and girls.

Another sweet addition to our Daughter's room is this beautiful wall height chart which is personalised. We've not been very good over the years with recording our kids' growth on such things so we're really looking forward to filling out this one for our youngest. (Not too quickly mind you!)

The Bird Tree Height Chart is 1700mm in height.

The wall chart is available on the Hippo Blue website in a huge selection of designs. We chose the Bird Tree Height Chart which is priced at $39.45. These sweet birds amble up the back of the bedroom door where regular use will be guaranteed.

Each vinyl wall chart is fully removable without stripping surfaces and comes with personalised name / date and age tags to record your child's growth. (You could do multiple children on this if you wish.) The charts have a great quality about them and look and feel like a matt, painted surface. They are easy to apply and easy to move around and take your precious memories with you over the years.

Hippo Blue have a massive range of beautiful solutions to ensure your kids' things return home and some stunning home décor items to delight them with too. Please do check them out!

Hippo Blue would like to offer one Six Little Hearts reader the opportunity to win a Height Chart in their own choice of design from their website valued at $39.45.

  1. Label, label and label. Label everything like you've never labelled before!

  2. The best thing to do is to ensure they take as little to school/kindy with them as possible. The less that goes, the less there is to lose!

  3. "Mum, I wanna get taller and taller, so I can use the big toilet and sit on the big chair, because I want to be a big boy!" After going to the preschool, my boy said to me this. The Wall Height Chart would help him realize that he is growing up and he would be very excited to see how fast it is.

  5. I would love to win this as I'm that mum who scribbles things on with black texta. We've lost a few lunchbox containers this year and a couple of hats. You're right. They need something that screams I'm mine. Something beautiful that they can't bare to lose. Love it.

  6. I put "mums" phone number and their name on the labels..With just a name it gets put into Lost and Found, but because of number I usually get a call..

  8. OK 2nd attempt at this :)
We are looking to move back to Canada in about 3 years, so we are trying to get our house ready for that so that our current home sells well. We are trying to not put too many nail holes in the wall, or in this case pencil marks (for measuring height). The pirate wall height chart would be so perfect for us to collect these important milestones of our little boy, and then be able to take them with us when we move around the world. I think it's important for him to have things that remind him of his life in Australia.

  20. My eldest child started school this year so I dutifully labelled all of her clothing with gorgeous iron on labels. Despite that, she came home without her school hat after her very first day!!
When the teachers tracked the hat diwn, it was being worn by another student, and his name had been written on the tag!!
So my advice? Label. Label again. And invest in lovely, personalised products like these by Hippo Blue to save any little "mixups" 😉

  22. My daughter lost her ruler in Grade 5 and found it on another child's desk- the flat side that I had written her name on had been covered in contact by her mum. You'd think she could have bought another $2 wooden ruler!

    1. That's terrible! Disgraceful! I don't think rulers even cost a dollar yet do they?!

  23. If I don't have labels I use a permanent marker

  24. I label it all, and ensure my son takes the least amount of stuff out of home. That saves us a trip to lost property!
