There's no better way to wind-down your over-tired children at the end of each day than through the gentle art of storytelling.
Storytelling provides a special opportunity for parents and their kids to come together and enjoy a quiet moment. It's calming, inspiring and fun for everybody and nobody tells tales to children better than a talented storyteller on a dedicated children's channel!
Disney Junior The Channel have a wonderful second season commencing of The Book of Once Upon A Time, set to premiere alongside Book Week this Monday the 24th of August. (For Foxtel subscribers, this is channel 709 or you can catch the latest tale on the Disney Story Room website at any time.)
Tune into Disney Junior The Channel at 7.10pm each weeknight to be lulled on a new and exciting adventure as you enter imaginative worlds adapted from real storybooks.
This exciting show for children is both interactive and locally produced and is hosted by Australian actor and playwright, Kate Mulvany.
Kate is a well-known Australian actor who has performed within some of Australia's top theatre companies as well as feature films and television series.
Many of you may recognise Kate from Griff the Invisible, The Great Gatsby, My Place and All Saints. Kate is also an award winning writer with over 25 screenplays to her name, the most recent of which, Masquerade, premiered at the Sydney Opera House.
We discovered The Book of Once Upon A Time for ourselves via the Disney Story Room website and instantly my youngest was enthralled! Kate is a truly engaging storyteller and reads each tale with a wonderful level of enthusiasm to really draw the attention of young kids.
Each tale is told from the pages of a real children's book. Before your eyes, the characters on the pages spring to life in various ways and are interspersed with cutaways of Kate 'becoming' the personas of the individuals within each tale with her wonderful acting talents.
On occasion, the scenes animate entirely and children are delighted to discover that Kate can walk about in the fantastic fantasy worlds depicted, while she continues to weave each story with flair and excitement.
The series provides a genuine storytelling experience and unlike regular children's television shows, the age-old craft of telling a tale is as interactive as ever. The art within the actual storybooks themselves is uniquely honoured and enhanced through the clever format of the show and the simple reading pleasures of importance - such as page turning, the storyteller's intonation and enthusiasm, all combine to create a magical place for little people to dwell.
Watch as your children become totally absorbed, entertained and educated while they listen to the creatively told tales.
Each episode of storytelling concludes magically, with Kate singing The Land of Once Upon A Time lullaby to aid children to get ready for bed, making the show an ideal part of your nightly bedtime ritual with your children.
The second series of The Book of Once Upon A Time is set to premiere with Snow White and the Great Jewel Hunt on Monday the 24th of August. (Book Week.) Further episodes will include timeless family favourites such as Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, Frozen and Winnie the Pooh.
