Do you wear a mum uniform? Something practical, comfortable and everyday to get you through the demands of raising your kids and running about, while still managing to make you look and feel half decent?
My winter standard 'mummy uniform,' consists of a long cardigan, tee, black pants, boots or loafers and my new favourite oversized khaki anorak from Witchery, which not only keeps me wonderfully warm, but also hides any spills or 'I have not had time to look in my mirror' moments. (Pretty much my reality every day really.)
My coat even hides bad hair days which is a real bonus in Melbourne's cold winter.
I've always said being a mum is a true sport too. It's a very physical job to rush to and from school pick-ups, shopping trips, appointments and jog the inevitable toddler chase for hours each day. It's challenging dealing with it all and having my essentials close by: My keys, wallet and mobile phone, a lippy and whatever other small items I may need to keep my engine running, is an imperative part of any daily routine for me.
I need and crave a tiny bit of organisation in my life to keep it all going smoothly when I feel most frazzled and challenged and I applaud a well-designed handbag for giving me this peace of mind.

My prized new fashion additions - my mummy cover-all anorak and my precious mummy bag in a selfie! |
Most mornings, as I watch my kids struggle to rise and I fret as the time ticks-on while they drag their little feet, my panic levels climb nice and high as I try to get the ball rolling. In the end, it inevitably all falls far from my initial planning attempts but I am so grateful for my new small friend; my latest addition to my mummy wardrobe - the gorgeous Barra crossbody bag by ECCO. It's keeping things speedy for me at least.
ECCO's Barra crossbody bag is my sumptuous little leather helper and it's perfect for organising my smalls in an easy-to-grab and carry size as I fly out the door on my daily errands.
Juggling a toddler, forgotten school bags (and sometimes the kids themselves), coats, toddler snacks and a plethora of other odds and ends into the car is one of my most difficult daily acts to co-ordinate and I really appreciate the throw over my shoulder, grab-and-go ability that this bag gives me.
The Barra bag by ECCO is crafted in an extremely soft, top-grain Batavia cow leather which feels almost suede to the touch, only it's not suede at all.
I was sent this bag in a stunning shade of aubergine, (Burgundy on the ECCO website) which makes it a real stand-out piece against whatever I choose to wear. (It's also available in Lime and Birch.) It's a fabulous all-round colour that's easy to spot on my busy mornings with the kids. There's no chance of losing this one in a hurry!
Inside, the Barra is lined with a softly padded Baby Ottoman fabric (water repellent), in a matching shade which protects against the elements to keep all your possessions safe. It looks pretty lush too.
Size-wise, (22 x 21.5 x 3.5cms) this little bag is fitted with a decent set of pockets to help keep you organised on the go with two open compartments on the interior front wall as well as a zippered section in the back wall.
A feature I love inside this bag is the bright striped piping outlining each of the pockets so that you can easily see deep inside your purse without needing to up-end its contents when you're pushed for time. There's also a fantastic key clip which reaches right out of the bag to help you get-going even faster.
The exterior features an open and lined pocket for easy access to the things you want quickly. There is one good, long strap for slinging the bag over your shoulder or across your body and it is fully adjustable via the strong studs to make your bag sit wherever you'd prefer. (Maximum strap length is 140cms and the strap drop is 68cms.)

Those fully adjustable, brushed nickel studs will add an effortless flair to your mummy uniform. |

ReplyDeleteI would really love to win this as I would love a bit of order in my bag, as my current one I always have to dig through it to find what I want!

ReplyDeletewith four kids i have alot of getting in and out of the car so in winter my mummy uniform is skinny jeans, converse boots, a long sleeve top with a short sleeve top over it and a cardigan with a jacket and umbrella just incase
ReplyDeleteMy mummy uniform is quite boring I know, jeans and a hoodie but spending my day with two kids under 5 I get covered in food and drink stains, paint, play dough and glue. It's essential!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous bag! Love that colour :)
ReplyDeleteMy mum uniform consists of jeans, long sleeved tee, boots and a puffer vest this winter - I'm very ready to break out the summer uniform though - capri pants and a tee!! (Rachel McDougall).
I too love the bag color, and the full zip closing. It's so difficult to get a nice bag, I have been using a travel/camera bag, it cost 5Dollars (seriously) but its cross body and the perfect size. However, it is getting rough now.
ReplyDeleteI mostly wear knee high boots, soft skinny jeans, long sleeve body warmer under t-shirt which is under a long sleeve T, a zip up, a body vest and a body warmer. :-o when summer comes I instantly loose 5kg.
I would love to win this ECCO bag because it's such a beautiful and convenient bag :-) Thanks.
ReplyDeletemy mummy uniform is jeans and a t shirt so practical!!!
ReplyDeleteMy mummy uniform: if I'm at home - trackies, t shirt, big warm fleece. If I'm out - jeans, t shirt and jacket. In this cold weather my sneakers are getting far more of a work out than I would like!

ReplyDeleteI would love to win this bag. Mine smells like a farmyard. Is freying on the handles and I'm not quite sure what that sticky green goo on the bottom is
ReplyDeleteMy Mummy uniform in winter is a pair of jeans and layers on top usually a long sleeve top with a jacket and a scarf. I try to mix it up a bit but I work with children in a home daycare environment and it needs to be practical! (A scarf can get in the way of a messy nappy change :-/ ) I love to dress up on weekends. Love love love the crossbody bag. I'm ashamed to admit I don't actually own one :(
ReplyDeleteShauna from Shauna 'Round the Corner
DeleteSuch a gorgeous bag would add a pop of badly needed colour to my standard mummy uniform of jeans, a long sleeved top, jacket, scarf and ankle boots. (Tracey Ralph)
ReplyDeleteI just love the colour of that bag!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to win this prize, as everything I wear or carry is to suit someone else at the moment, being a breastfeeding mum of three. It would be lovely to have something that is stylish, and just for me! Rosemarie De Bari
ReplyDeleteThat leather looks SO soft! Sorry I've been so absent recently - LIFE - it's a busy place! x
ReplyDeleteJeans, grey long sleeve tee, black zip up jumper, red canvas shoes and big scarf to add some changing colour - brrrr Melbourne is cold at the moment!! Argh, thinking about it the usual scarf is black - I need some colour Jodi!!!! Hahaha! At least comfort is key and like you say, anything to hide those messy moments - how does their breakfast invariably end up on my top?! Kelly Sammut
ReplyDeleteThis bag would be the perfect accessory to my current mummy uniform - my three month old baby in a ring sling.
ReplyDeleteBecky Hopkins ^
DeleteI'm seriously envious of your bag collection Jody! You must have a whole wardrobe just for your bags.
ReplyDeleteAt this time of year - the all important uniform includes my snuggly, warm polar jacket
ReplyDeleteRebecca Tompsett
On days I'm not working....mummy uniform tends to be my work out clothes. I try to get into them first thing for motivation and then keep them on as I'm moving to fast throughout the day to change. LOL

DeleteNancee Biviano says gorgeous colour
ReplyDeleteMy Mum uniform is the jeans, black flats and black long length cardi. I rock it out with a different coloured top on a regular basis, and I have so many variables of the jeans and cardi it's not funny! But I feel semi presentable at school dropoffs, and I'm still super comfortable.
ReplyDeletemy mummy uniform is track pants and jumpers i look like a frumpy mummy Julie Ford
ReplyDeleteI am sick of my massive nappy bag, time to use something fancy like this bag to go out and shop!
ReplyDeleteNarelle Rock
Tunics, leggings, try to look slim,
ReplyDeleteTop to toe, limb to limb.
All I can wear, hide my sins,
Hide the evidence, I had twins!
How beautiful is that leather on those bags! As weird as this sounds I really want to sniff it...I love the smell of new leather. I'm sounding creepy now right? Can that be my reason for why I want to win?
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous bag. Not normally a colour I'd go for but I really like it. A cross body bag is a must for a busy mum! Thanks for linking up to the ultimate rabbit hole link up. Xx

ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous bag! My mummy uniform is skinny jeans, tan loafers and a breton stripe top! #mummymondays
DeleteWhat a gorgeous (and totally practical) bag! Plus with the over body strap, gives you free hands to chase after and wrangle the kids! My mummy uniform is typically jeans, boots, long sleeve tee and jacket/jumper, depending on how cold Canberra is! Emma @ Life, kids and a glass of red. #MummyMondays
ReplyDeleteMy mummy wardrobe starts with a smile, has a lot of hair brushing then I just tie it up. I like to be dressy but not overly. With a 100km drive daily to pre-school and stopping in the primary every Friday to watch assembly I dress in nice shorts and a belt and a pretty T or a shirt with just a splash of blingle. I like to show that I care about me. Grandma always dressed for dinner and it's a quality I always loved in her.
ReplyDeleteNatalie Murnane
DeleteJeans and a tee, if cold I am sometimes able to grab a cardy depending on Bella's mood (lol)
ReplyDeleteMy Mummy Uniform consists of tracksuit pants and t-shirt - both in black to conceal stains!
