Teaching Kids About Hygiene, Health and The Importance of Hand Washing

*This post is brought to you in collaboration with Dettol.

Let me suggest that kids and dirt and germs are a trilogy of tragedy as far as cleanliness goes. Boys in particular, have an almost unnatural attraction to the lure of grub don't they? I once Pinned a quote that described them as 'noise with dirt on it.'

Oh so true!

I am as militant a Mum as any when it comes to hand washing and small people in general. So nothing grosses me more than seeing my kids feeding their faces after school or play with filthy hands. (No sooner had I typed that sentence when a child appeared next to me doing just that! Eww!)

Promptly sent off to the sink with marching orders!

Bean Burger Brunch with Edgell Red Kidney Beans and Edgell Tomato Supreme Plus One

*This post is brought to you in collaboration with Edgell.

Just about everyone appreciates a good vegetarian meal every once in a while. Vegetarian options can be so refreshing and choosing a serve of something natural and packed full of protein and vitamins is a delicious alternative when you are feeling like a quick snack or a lighter meal.

Take brunch for example.

This recipe for bean burgers goes way back. These are our favourite go-to snack when there's a desire for a tasty meal that's on equal par with its meat equivalent. Everyone should have a good vegetarian burger recipe in their cookbook collection. This is all that and more! The fresh flavour of the coriander is divine in these burgers too.

Discover with Dr. Cool Dig Kits Review and a Roaring Great Giveaway #SLHFeaturedThursdays

So, parenting fact #276 in a sea of a gazillion parenting facts: Children are attracted to BIG things.

It's no surprise really that little people like the big stuff in life: They typically want the largest serve of cake, to build the biggest sand castle at the beach, the most ridiculously large haul of lollies every time you hit the shops or the hugest collection of whatever the current collecting trend is amongst their peers.

The list just goes on and on don't it just?

It's easy to surmise they're attracted to large stuff in general because they're small themselves - or simply not. There's little point seeking out the method for their preference really; it's just survival of the fittest 'modern day' style.

Big is simply better. Accept it.

Beef, Cabbage and Bean Hotpot with Edgell Tomato Supreme Plus One

*This post is brought to you in collaboration with Edgell.

Here's a recipe for a delicious Winter hotpot that I have been making for years. This is one of the easiest and tastiest hotpots I've come across and until now, I have guarded this recipe well!

But now I am going to share it on account of being May's Blogger of the Month over at Edgell.

I swear by this meal for its health-giving powers. In the past I have found this to be a personal cure for the post-baby blues. Whenever I've returned home from hospital with a new baby, it's been this dish that I've requested over and over in those early weeks, while I've struggled to find my feet again on the road to recovery with a new little family member.

Healthy Cornbread Muffins Made With Edgell Corn Kernels Plus One

*This post is brought to you in collaboration with Edgell.

Have you seen the latest commercials for the Edgell Plus One website on television?

The Edgell Plus One project is a simple concept. Edgell have been looking for easy ways for everyone to enjoy an extra serve of healthy vegetables in their favourite meals. By adding a 'plus one' of any variety of Edgell's range, you can boost your dietary intake considerably. It's easy, it's a fun challenge and their Plus One site is brimming with some great meal ideas too.

I was so honoured to have been approached by Edgell recently and asked to come on board with the project and I am equally chuffed to announce that I am Edgell's official Blogger of the Month for May.

Fun Food Ideas for Kids - Have You Checked Out DAIRYLEA MUMMY HACKS?

*This post is brought to you in collaboration with DAIRYLEA cheese.

We Mums have so many roles in the world. From work-force Mummas to stay-at-home ones, we're feeding families, cleaning homes, taxi driving kids every which way and then feeding and cleaning some more in an endless and inane cycle it seems.

Always pushed for time us Mummies aren't we?

So there's nothing worse than when, after a gruelling day of juggling the lot, the kids decide to be picky little people when it comes to the foods we serve. Like we need that kind of trouble!

Come to think of it, like we ever need most of our parenting troubles!

Easy Shepherd's Pie with Edgell Plus One Vegetables

*This post is brought to you in collaboration with Edgell.

Shepherd's Pie is one of those wonderful family meals that are simple and hearty. There's no better word than 'hearty' to describe a dish that's so loaded with protein, vegetables and the filling Winter goodness of mashed potatoes to top it off.

Absolutely delicious!

This month I have been collaborating with Edgell behind the scenes here and I am so pleased to announce that I am officially Edgell's Blogger of the Month for May. Yay! Such an honour!

You may have seen some commercials on TV lately for Edgell Plus One? If you're wondering what it's all about, it's a campaign about adding the goodness of an extra serve of vegetables to your diet by simply adding any can of Edgell vegetables to a meal you already make.

Charmazing by Style Me Up! Review and An 'armazing Giveaway! #SLHFeaturedThursdays

This week I wrote a post about boredom busters for kids here on the blog and one of my top suggestions to make the list, was jewellery making. Now jewellery making is not normally something that would have sprung to mind readily as a tip to even consider, were it not for a jumbo parcel of Charmazing arriving a few weeks' back for my kids to try out.

Admittedly, our weekend just gone was a little dull and the kids were a broody bunch because of it. (Mum and Dad are busy trying to prepare the house for sale - we can't always be fun, fresh and available - sorry kiddos.)

Thank goodness for these Charmazing kits by Style Me Up! to brighten up the mood.

Boredom Busters for Kids

I've never understood how kids can get bored. Really, there's just so much to do in childhood isn't there?

Isn't there?

I find it exhausting when my kids hound me with the 'I'm bored' moans. They're always picking my brains for solutions to this never-ending feeling they seem to possess and I am forever rolling my eyes, sighing and then thinking really, r-e-a-l-l-y hard to find just a glimmer of something fun, (in my pathetic memory bank), hoping like crazy for a spark of inspiration to ward them off.

Of course there are the obvious ideas you can suggest - like the things you see your kids enjoy regularly such as video games, movies on TV, reading and such, but usually when they throw this complaint out there in the first place, it's a signal that they've exhausted all of those regular avenues already.

An A-Z of Mothering for Mums...

I have been in bed sick for a few days - since Mother's Day actually. Hence, no Featured Thursdays today on account of being tucked up in bed for half of the week. It wasn't a bad virus at all (nothing of the projectile kind thank god) - just a sleepy, dizzy kind of thing that kept me off my feet. It did not stop the toddler from body-slamming me every time I managed to drop off to sleep however! There's no sympathy or understanding from that age group!

I have been pondering a few thoughts while I was bed-bound with so much time on my hands. What else was there to do really?

In particular, I've been thinking on those things that I have learned as a Mum in my time.

Baby Bumkins Baby Wipes Review

*This Product Talk post is brought to you in collaboration with Nuffnang and Baby Bumkins.

This motherhood gig is a frightfully mucky business isn't it?

Amid those adorable, unequalled highs of the squishy, loving kind you experience as you raise your kiddos, there are many equally disgusting times at the other end of it all - in particular the lower end... and you know I mean like, literally.

And so, a baby wipes review - just how should I approach this?

While I pondered the various angles I could take and set about photographing my Baby Bumkins wipes I was sent for review, other things were a-stir behind my back...

Spiegelworld Presents Absinthe - Tour Le Monde Australian Tour 2015 Review...

If you're looking to see a show unlike anything you've ever seen before, then Spiegelworld's Absinthe, Tour Le Monde is definitely the production you have been waiting for!

Absinthe is currently playing in Melbourne on the rooftop of the Crown Casino for only a few more weeks before continuing its Australian tour. Having recently experienced its magic, it's one production we highly recommend.

Spiegelworld's Absinthe, like the famed drink from which it derives its name, is a spiralling concoction of old world cabaret, vaudeville, circus and burlesque, cleverly melded into a show fit for a modern audience. This renown Las Vegas production is hilarious, sexy, frequently bawdy and risqué, yet utterly breathtaking too.

Finlee and Me Toy Review and A Beautiful Toy Giveaway You Won't Want to Miss! #SLHFeaturedThursdays

There's an over-supply of non-stand-out kiddy goods on the market don't you think? It makes for a boring shop indeed, when you're looking for something for a little someone who's special, above and beyond the standard offerings.

All kiddies are special, especially in the eyes of those who love them and I think most of us strive to provide our kids with something less common and more amazing when it comes to toys and games.

There's something fabulous about purchasing a wonderful toy too - call it sentimental, but a really lovely children's item can literally send you on a wistful stroll down memory lane...

Tee and Me Fashion Review and a Gorgeous Mother and Daughter, Mother's Day Giveaway...

I was saving this post for my Featured Thursdays series here on the blog but then I thought - No! Mother's Day is literally just around the corner and I've just got to get this sweet message out there as soon as possible.

So here's my soon as possible and really, I am just so excited to share this new fashion discovery with you that it just could not wait!

If you're anything like me, buying for Mother's Day is a last minute affair on account of being a Mum yourself.

Always pushed for time, I've not yet dreamed up something I would like to receive myself at the time of writing this post, let alone something to buy for my own Mum.

So this post is for all Mums in the same predicament, (oh and non-Mums), because we women just love to look good at any stage of our lives don't we?

A Simple and Delicious Creamy Mushroom Soup Recipe

I always know that the start of Winter is officially here, the moment I begin to crave or consider soup as an option for a meal. It's not a date thing or a Season thing for me - but entirely a temperature thing.

Here we are in May - just Autumn, but already my inner cold-detecting 'soup gauge' is pointing towards a very chilly Winter season filled with lots of good, hot soups!

Nothing is more warming and comforting than a good bowl of piping hot soup. As a meal, they're so easy to prepare (especially in a soup maker or Thermomix if you have one) and soup is a very satisfying and healthy choice too.

I have been treating myself to this creamy mushroom delight for years now and thanks to its key ingredients of lemon juice and nutmeg, this recipe produces a very classy meal which takes only around 15 minutes to make. This soup has a great texture and flavour that is well above and beyond the many mushroom soups I have tried to date.

And so, I am sharing it. Make sure you give this one a go because chances are, you too will find it incredibly delicious as well.
