Oz Comic-Con 2016 has finally rolled around and it's time to brace yourselves for all the fun, colour and excitement this sensational event entails. If you love comic heroes, television shows, cult classics, video gaming, anime, manga, fantasy, sci-fi or animation (there's something in there for all of us), then this is the event you've been waiting for!
Whether you are a complete 'noob,' have briefly heard of Oz Comic-Con at some stage, or you are a total geek who positively hangs-out for this amazing two-day extravaganza to rock-around each year, you'll find this a fabulous day out. Everyone should attend this!
Unleash your inner-geek!
Oz Comic-Con is a hugely-popular national event visiting five cities in Australia in 2016: Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. It's a weekend filled with so much fun, where you can mingle with other like-minded peeps who adore geekery with the same passion as yourself - usually more! (Tip: Make sure you take your camera along with you.)
At this all-ages event, see your favourite TV shows, film and comic book characters in all kinds of exhibits and celebrations. There are opportunities to meet big-name international stars at each venue and the super-dedicated fanatic can even purchase tokens for personal meetings and photo opportunities with their biggest icons.
For full details on which star is visiting each State's venue, visit the official Oz Comic-Con website.
While dressing up, (also referred to as cosplay for the uninitiated) is not compulsory to attend, it sure is fun, and really reflects all the excitement of the convention. Kids of all ages, teens and their parents, even seniors, are typically spotted in costume everywhere. If you do decide to go along in costume, you won't be out of place and you won't regret it! Everyone is more than willing to pose for photos in character, and the efforts some go to with their outfits can, at times, be breathtaking.
Another tip for attending this event: Take plenty of cash along. There are stalls galore that you will want to browse and buy from, plus food.
Visitors can purchase comic books new and old, art work, limited edition memorabilia, jewellery, merchandise, clothing and toys and so many other unique items.
Expect to be surprised too. Last year we 'accidently' met with the Australian props man behind Doctor Who and Star Wars; the very same one responsible for building the Tardis, R2D2 and so many other huge film icons. (Yes, they're all made on Aussie soil and shipped to their international locations.) We had some fantastic photo opportunities too.
Children under four are granted free entry and one free child's ticket is issued with every paying adult's ticket for children aged between 5-12. There are a range of ticketing packages to suit everyone and every budget. You can attend just one day or both. For more details about the program and to purchase tickets, visit the Oz Comic-Con website.

My partner is a huge comic/dungeons and dragons/role playing/card collecting nerd. If I win, what we save in entry fees will be more than made up with comics and collectibles purchased.
ReplyDeleteI think its great to learn all different aspects about the television programs. My favourite genre is Sci-fi so I'm in my element!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this prize as I live in a house full of 'geeks' that thrive on this stuff and I really, really feel left out! Send me so I can get myself an education! Hahaha
ReplyDeleteGreat event. I would like to take my 5 years old to Comic Con. It will be perfect birthday gift for her
ReplyDeleteMy 3 year old loves dressing up in fairy costumes and superhero costumes. She has a make-believe stage and likes making up concerts for me to watch. She would love Comic-con.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite fictional character would be "Felicity Smoak" from Arrow. She is such a strong female lead and a good inspiration to young women.
ReplyDeleteI love comic Con events! Have heard about few of these events and find them really enjoyable. It would be great if I know about events planned this year as I am going to attend one at venue Houston TX and would love to be part of them too.
