Bellabox Review June - Make the 'Winter Switch!' #SLHFeaturedThursdays

Well, winter has finally descended and there's a whole lot of cold to hide from, for us 'sun bunnies.' It's the season for layering kilos of clothing, cranking up the heater, downing copious cups of hot cocoa and burning yourself dry under hot showers. I'll be honest with you, the only two things I love about this season are the latter two points. There's nothing like caffeine and hot showers to get you through the winter months while you yearn miserably for the warmer ones. (When you are a sun bunny of course.)

This is the season for dry skin and for many of us, that hits as soon as the temperature changes. All the remedies for relieving the cold we feel, sadly do nothing wonderful for your body overall. Every year, the first wintery snap invites outbreaks of eczema, scaly skin patches, dehydration and itchiness.

I was so pleased to see that the June Bellabox was all about making the 'winter switch.' The colder months mean more intense skin conditioning in order to maintain comfortable and healthy bodies and this month's sample selections are about achieving just that. It's time to swap your summer skin care products, for the more effective winter ones to really combat the elements.

We've previewed Bellabox a number of times here but if you've somehow missed the boat, you can catch up a little here. Just quickly though, Bellabox provide a monthly subscription parcel service of hand-picked cosmetics and skin care products delivered to your door. It's an excellent way to discover new products without waste or excessive spending.

Your Tea and Mizon Enjoy Vital Time Soothing Mask

My June parcel was so large that it was bulging in its box! This month's selections were a fantastic array of items to beat the cold and provide comfort with a little sprucing and dazzle in the mix.

First up to greet me as I unboxed, was the Your Tea Body Range Skin Magic Tea. Who doesn't love a tea in the colder months? (So good on a hoarse throat.) This tea promises a combination of goodies for the complexion while offering a healthy, soothing drink as well. The package of 9 teabags are made in the Fujian Province of China and contain body-friendly actives such as aloe vera, liquorice root, lotus seed heart, jasmine flower and Chinese red tea.

I am going to indulge in this drink on the weekend. (After I've had a hot shower, clothed myself excessively and worked up a sweat in front of the fire.) Old habits may die hard, but a new warming beverage is so welcome to hydrate.

Mizon Enjoy Vital Time Soothing Mask (pictured above): I can't wait to try this out and the only reason I haven't yet, is because I needed to photograph it for you. This mask comes from Korea (home of some truly beautiful skincare products). I have actively sought out Korean products many times as they are quite lovely to use and there are some seriously fantastic prices on their products too. (Like this BB cream I discovered a while ago, which proved such a great product and pocket-friendly too.)

This mask contains fresh lavender and sounds amazing. Lavender is very soothing to the skin and can be very calming, an effect that also helps to de-stress your mood. Two goods in the one package.

My eyes lit-up at the sight of the full-sized lip balm by Dermal Therapy. I have a thing for lip balms in that I am never without several on my person. (There are currently two in my handbag and usually one stuffed in a pocket.) I suffer from very dry lips year round so I make sure I am never without this essential.

Having said that, I have never heard of this brand so I was naturally eager to try it. It is fine textured with a sweet scent, a cooling effect and a hint of camphor. I like it. It promises visible results in one day. I am quite sure that it delivers but seriously, I never suffer from dry lips as I just don't allow it to happen to myself. It's a nice product anyway, with a slanted applicator and unisex packaging which won't allow for leakage.

Nail polish - oh yes! I adore doing my nails, especially pedicures. Bellabox's June box has delivered me my first ever gel polish. Thanks guys! I have long heard the benefits of gel polishes but had not readily seen them in stores. Gels are apparently long-wearing, chip resistant and better for your nails compared to regular polishes. This one is by Gelogic and is from the USA. The colour is Light Pink.
I love it! The brand is not tested on animals and does not require a UV lamp or LED light to set.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleansing Wipes: I always like to see a pack of skin wipes in my beauty parcels. The lazy in me enjoys the convenience of wiping off a stale day with a simple to use pack of pre-moistened wipes to simplify things. These are nice and gentle and formulated for sensitive skins. They are also fragrance free (thus they won't over-stimulate you as you wipe haphazardly at the day's end) also, dermatologist recommended so no irritated eyes to bother you either. All good!

Colgate Optic White toothpaste is already a personal favourite. Have you tried it? You can achieve up to four shades visibly whiter teeth. I am already a fan of this product and regularly buy it. If you are a heavy coffee or wine drinker (or hot chocolate fanatic like me), or you smoke, give this brand a shot to improve your smile.

Lastly, a small sample of Neutrogena's Hydro Boost is included in the parcel to help hydrate your skin. It's a well known and trusted brand and this little sample is ideally sized for your handbag or a weekend away.

Six Little Hearts readers can pay only $10 for their first month's trial of Bellabox!

Please consider Bellabox for either yourself or for gifting to another. These parcels are packed full of the latest beauty treats which are seasonal and exciting. A School Holiday Survival Guide to Kick-Start the Fun

School holidays - do you love them or loathe them? Actually, don't stress about answering that - it's really not worth pondering the extremes too hard. Chances are, you will feel both emotions strongly (and in veritable tsunamis) with your kids soon about your home 24/7.

If you have school-aged children and you live in Australia, one thing is dead-inevitable: they are about to descend on your prized space, so it's a case of like it or lump it.

Crayola Color Alive Review - New Exciting Colouring Adventures for Children

*This Product Talk post is brought to you by Nuffnang and Crayola.

It's so easy to say that we're a household full of Crayola fans here. All parents are, generally speaking, well acquainted with this brand of crafting and drawing fun for kids. Chocolate Brownies Recipe - Favourite Bakes

So it's Saturday at the time of writing this and it's a typical Melbourne winter's day - as much as it pains me to write that. Outside, it's grey, cold and wet and not surprisingly, we've all slept in. Breakfast has been had (for some) and now the cravings of midday beckon...

Most people appreciate brownies. (Who wouldn't?) Around here, they're a family favourite and I am currently baking these babies at least three times a week. Nothing silences the after school grumbles quite like a brownie or two and the same can be said for grumbles on rainy Melbourne Saturdays.

Today, brownies are a lunch time treat.

The Big Freeze Festival Melbourne and a Family Pass Giveaway

The winter school holidays are almost here and the pressure is on us parents to come up with new and exciting things to entertain the kids this July.

One thing my own children have repeatedly requested year after year during the chilly months, is a trip to the snow. Sadly, we've never taken them. The reasons? Well, everything from the enormity of the planning and preparation, to the expense of all the equipment that's required to make a visit to the snow safe and comfortable for all. (From the snow chains for your car to all that waterproof gear - to buy or to rent? You get my gist.)

The truth of the matter is, a visit to the snow is a huge and expensive undertaking that is simply beyond the reach of many families.

Marble Cake Recipe. A Simple Home Baked Classic

Marble cakes are so delightful aren't they? Kids especially adore those mysterious and exciting swirly folds of delicious chocolate and vanilla flavours, all blended together seamlessly. I admit to liking these cakes too, maybe a little too much. I have always had a talent for downing a slice of marble cake whenever the opportunity presents itself. (Well, any cake really.) Who can resist cake? This recipe means I can enjoy a well-deserved slice whenever I wish and lately, that's been quite a bit. (Blame the cold.)

Teletubbies Toy Review and Win a Teletubbies Prize Pack Worth $95! #SLHFeaturedThursdays

Little kids adore Teletubbies don't they? Have you ever watched how fascinated and mesmerised young kids become when watching this popular early-learning children's series? I have always found it amusing to observe my own kids over the years as they interacted with this show. To this day, even the older ones sit open-mouthed and absorbed if they find themselves watching Teletubbies on TV!
Given that fact, I had a bit of a giggle compiling these pictures of my youngest discovering her new Teletubbies toy for this post.
My daughter was just so delighted when I gave her this new piece of Teletubbies fun to play with!

Finding Homeliness Through Home Improvements...

*This post is brought to you in collaboration with ColorTile.

If you've been following along here for a while, you will recall that we had planned to have sold our home quite some time ago by now.

The preparation for selling our house and returning to the inner burbs was going great-guns last year, for a good-while at least. We'd half-packed our things, sold others and thrown a ton of clutter away. Then life threw us a bit of an unexpected curve-ball late last year and for the time being, our plans have been suspended. We're staying put.

Pilot Frixion Pens Review - Erasable Pens and Markers Plus Win! #SLHFeaturedThursdays

These days, it's so commonplace to see young kids glued to screens for both leisure and learning purposes.

The push to get kids tech-savvy in the education system starts young and the use of technology in the classroom is in full-swing from the moment kids step through the door of primary school and advances from there as they grow. (Even as I write, my toddler is confidently playing an ABC for Kids app on my iPad. No biggie. Just the norm.)

As a mum, I both like technology for kids... and loathe it. Here's why:
