The winter school holidays are almost here and the pressure is on us parents to come up with new and exciting things to entertain the kids this July.
One thing my own children have repeatedly requested year after year during the chilly months, is a trip to the snow. Sadly, we've never taken them. The reasons? Well, everything from the enormity of the planning and preparation, to the expense of all the equipment that's required to make a visit to the snow safe and comfortable for all. (From the snow chains for your car to all that waterproof gear - to buy or to rent? You get my gist.)
The truth of the matter is, a visit to the snow is a huge and expensive undertaking that is simply beyond the reach of many families.
Now Melbourne's winter's are renown for being very cold and terminally miserable and I have always thought that a little dazzling snow here and there would make a brilliant difference to an otherwise bitterly-freezing season here down south. Thank goodness this year, we can allow our kids to experience all the beauty and fun of the snow season without stepping foot outside our fabulous city - and so can you!
A BIG hello to Melbourne's first ever Big Freeze Winter Family Festival which will grace our city these coming school holidays!
Touted as a family event with a difference, there are no carnival rides or fairy floss vendors at this one. Instead, families are invited to experience nine magical and interactive winter play zones which include a snow pit, snowball toss, a snowfall forest, a giant snow globe, a snow village as well as sensory snow play.
Plus, there will be winter fun zones which include everything from superhero training to snowboarding, construction play, arts and crafts as well as stage performances, family workshops and more.
The theme and purpose of this event; to empower kids to be active, creative and use their imaginations within a spectacular winter wonderland setting.
To top it off, the event is housed entirely within a giant expo arena at the Cranbourne Racecourse. There will be fresh snow three times a day and a promise against none of Melbourne's rain falling on this parade! This is something that no Melbourne family (who has ever dreamed of experiencing snow with their kids) should miss!
The Big Freeze Festival opens to the public on Saturday the 2nd of July and runs until Sunday July 10 and operates daily from 9am to 5pm.
