Have you got a coveted chocolate cake recipe? A recipe that's far superior to all other cakes you've tried? One that's on-par with an upmarket café or restaurant? (Come on now, we all do!) I have shared a few chocolate cake recipes here on Six Little Hearts and as far as chocolate baking goes, they're all goodies. (Really good in fact. Have you tried this basic chocolate cake or this delicious flourless chocolate cake?)
Well, here's a chocolate cake which blasts all other chocolate cake recipes to smithereens. (Or at least, jades them a little in the comparison stakes.) Let's be fair to a fantastic ingredient, generally speaking, chocolate is great in all of its variations, but this one cake in particular... swoon!
I have been baking this Indulgent Chocolate Fudge Cake for many years and always when we deserve nothing but the best of the best. Naturally, it's another very easy recipe, and although this is the case, rest assured, no corners have been cut. The taste of this particular bake is none-other than extraordinary. I know I say it often here, but - this is a must bake! Please do try it!
Thanks to a recent hamper gifted to this baker by Nestlé, crammed full of their trusty new-look Bakers' Choice range of baking chocolates and other kitchen essentials, plus an invite to get creative, I knew it was time to share this incredible cake here.
Nestlé Bakers' Choice invited me to take part in their Bake it Yours baking challenge. Yes please!
I have always enjoyed baking with Nestlé Bakers' Choice products. (Especially their Cocoa, which is rich and beautifully flavoured, plus 100 percent pure. It turns out top-notch cakes and muffins every time.) Experienced Nestlé-preferring chefs of all abilities will recognise the smart new packaging of their favourites. We were very happy to be selected to be amongst the first to try it all out in this stunning cake.
Indulgent Chocolate Fudge Cake
Preparation time: 20 minutes. Baking time: 45 minutes.
100 grams margarine or butter
1 and 1/2 cups of caster sugar
1 family block of Nestlé plain milk chocolate (the eating kind)
2 eggs
1/2 cup of Nestlé Bakers' Choice Cocoa
3/4 cup of milk
2 cups of self-raising flour.
For the decorations:
1, 290g packet of Nestlé Bakers' Choice White Chocolate Melts.
Decorations: Silver balls and pearls.
For the buttercream icing:
1, 290g packet of Nestlé Bakers' Choice Milk Chocolate Melts
125g butter or margarine
120g icing sugar mixture.
Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
Grease and line a medium sized round cake pan with baking paper and dust with flour. Set this aside.
In a microwave-proof dish, break the chocolate block into small squares and put the butter / margarine in the same bowl. Microwave this on low power (around 30 percent) for a minute at a time, checking regularly and stirring until the butter and chocolate are melted together. Set this aside while you prepare the cake.
In a stand mixer (fastest method) or by hand, mix the remaining ingredients together gently.
Lastly, add the melted chocolate and butter mix to the cake batter and blend until this makes a fudgy texture. Note: the smell at this stage is utterly divine. (Just in case you were wondering!)

The secret of this amazing cake lies in its rich flavour reflected in this unique ribbon-like texture. |
Spread the cake batter into the prepared pan and place in the pre-heated oven for 45 minutes.
While the cake bakes, the next step is to make the white chocolate bark using Nestlé Bakers' Choice Melts. Using a microwave-proof bowl, follow the instructions on the packet to melt around half a packet of Melts.
While the chocolate is heating, line a small baking sheet with baking paper and have a palette knife on hand to spread your chocolate while it's hot. Get your chosen decorations ready too, as you will need to work quickly at this stage.

Nestlé's Melts are very quick and easy to prepare. |
When the Melts have become thick, smooth white chocolate, quickly pour this chocolate onto the baking tray and spread it evenly with the palette knife. Now add your decorations swiftly before the chocolate sets. When done, place this tray into your fridge to set and chill until required.
Don't forget to involve a kid (or three) in the chocolate preparation stages.
They are especially good at licking clean, the bowls and spoons!
Once the cake is ready, it's time to test the centre. Use a skewer to carefully test the middle of the cake. A really important point to remember with this bake, is that the texture of the centre should be gooey, a little like a lava cake. Do not overcook this cake! At the 45 minute mark, remove the cake from your oven and allow it to cool entirely in the pan. Turn it out directly onto the serving plate using a wire rack to assist, but do not leave it on a wire rack for long, as the fudge may leak out of its centre!
No chocolate cake is worth its weight without real chocolate icing to add to its richness. For the icing, it's time to whip-up a batch of milk chocolate buttercream using milk chocolate Nestlé Bakers' Choice Melts.
For this you will need to melt half a packet of Melts as per packet directions and set aside. Using a mixer, beat the butter and icing sugar together until pale and creamy. Add the melted chocolate and mix together well.
When ready, spread generous amounts of the buttercream icing onto your cooled cake.
Now take the white chocolate bark you prepared earlier from your fridge and break this into shards. Arrange the shards onto your cake while the icing is still fresh and has not set. (Work quickly!)
Voila! Your delicious cake is ready to consume. I can't tell you enough, just how great this recipe is, so really make an effort to try this one in your own home. A huge thank you to Nestlé Bakers' Choice for the delicious goodies to make this happen in our home again. It's been a while since we enjoyed this one.

I love seeing the joy on the faces of my children when I make their birthday cakes! I'm not a brilliant baker by any stretch, but with lots of chocolate, you can't go wrong! A favourite here has been a pinata cake (in my profile pic) made with a LOT of Nestle chocolate melts and a lot 'fingers crossed' moments!
ReplyDeleteOoohhhh my, this looks absolutely delicious! And pretty too. I am usually quite the lazy baker, just making a very plain and simple chocolate sponge cake but this looks too good not to try. #MommyMondays

Anything that is baked with chocolate is my (Melinda Roworth) favorite. Rocky Road is probably at the top of the list because the chocolate is the main attraction.
