Summer Fun Play Ideas for Your Own Backyard PLUS WIN 1 of 2 Sensational Waterpark Play Pools!

*This post is brought to you in collaboration with Clark Rubber.

Summer is finally here in Australia! It's a time to celebrate in so many ways in addition to the arrival of the festive season. Gone are the cold grey skies, short dark days and the biggest bugbear of them all - bored children! Hip Hooray! This precious season is a joyous time to reap the very best of nature, and for kids, this means hours of outdoor fun daily for a whole long summer break.

It's time to pop on a swimsuit, grab a hose and get busy 'keeping cool' creatively, in a whole load of boisterous and lively ways within your own backyard!

Can you remember the joy of your own summer holidays spent in your backyard as a kid? All that water play, ice cream, cloud-watching, the cubby houses, bike riding and scooters... There was almost too much to cram into any particular scorching summer's day. For many of us, some of those memories created in this season are our very best memories we've held onto since childhood. Now as we play parents, it's our turn to help make the memories of our own kids, as terrific as can be.
And it's not too hard to do at all - or expensive.

Pools are a known source of backyard happiness for kids of all ages. If you want guaranteed summer contentment this year, then a pool is a must. You needn't invest your life savings to provide one either. Clark Rubber have a range of portable pools to suit families and kids of all ages and sizes. These are built to please and are so well-received by over-heated, over-excited children.

Take this Splash and Shade Wading Pool for example. It's family sized and holds a whopping 1688 litres of water. It is easy to set up and has a strong, rust-resistant frame for lasting fun. It also comes with a 40 plus UV canopy to provide excellent sun protection while the kids play.

Our kids are not only loving this pool, they're living in it too!

Splash and Shade Wading Pool RRP $229. You can even attach a hose to the centre of the canopy for a waterfall effect!
 Jumbo Beach Ball RRP $9.95

Kids can expand on the water play fun in their own backyard with a good old-fashioned water fight. Try water pistols, (Nerf guns are great), buckets and sprinklers for hot day fun or fill up regular balloons at the tap for memorable times. All of these options are cheap and easy, as well as thrilling and cooling!

If water balloons are the preferred 'water weapon' of choice for your kids, did you know that you can now buy exciting and modern equivalents called Bunch O Balloons? These special water balloons are designed especially for throwing fun. Kids can fill 35 balloons in just seconds from any garden tap. They're a huge summer hit and easy to find in department and toy stores. Give them a try this summer.

Three! Two! One! - Water fight!

Other kid-approved excitements to enjoy in your own backyard can include everything from bug catching, sandpit play, trampolining, pop-up play centres, swing sets, balls, bikes, gardening, outdoor playsets (such as totem tennis), scooters and cars. You name it! Where appropriate, just add water for additional summertime fun. (Don't forget to offer plenty of summer time drinks and fruit to keep kids hydrated within too.)

Why not try out a few super inflatables this summer?

Clark Rubber have an enormous range of family pools and pool play gear that is brightly coloured and well made for a summer-load of excitement.

This amazing Dinoland Play Centre has everything a child could possibly want in a water park while remaining compact enough for the average yard.

This colourful pool measures over three metres in length and above two metres in width and is chocked-full of bright water park play fun! The dinosaur theme is vibrant, creative and eternally exciting. Kids go bonkers in this!

Our own children are elated with this pool's features, which include a built-in slide, exciting waterfall, a dinosaur hoop (for ball tossing) plus balls and rings for catch and throw fun. There's even an inflatable cushion built-in to catch young sliders.

This extraordinary water play park is decorated with flying pterodactyls, palm trees and a giant 'watersaurus' that dispatches the water spray fun. The Dinoland pool attaches easily to a standard garden hose and holds approximately 280 litres of water (plus quite a few kids!) for countless hours of adventure and laughs.

...And it's all built hardy-enough to support kids that have tipped-over on the excitement scale!

Little features for little people - there's even a ball slide!

Whatever 'floats your boat' this summer, remember to supervise your children at all times around water and pools. Never leave your kids unattended in, or near water. Also, check with your local council regarding pool and spa fencing, water safety and water regulations. Be sun-safe too, and protect your children with a high level sunscreen and hats when outdoors.

WIN one of two huge Dinoland water park play pools for your own backyard this summer
valued at RRP $99.95 each!

Total prize pool: $199.90.

  1. We don't have a real pool so every year Santa gives the family a slipnslide - it usually breaks by the end of jan....

  2. It's so cool that we get to use water again. For so many years the drought took that fun away from us.

  3. Our neighbours have just put in a pool, so basically - we have moved into their house.

  4. My little man is always outside with coloured chalk, drawing all over the pavers.....I reckon if we set up the pool, the pavers would almost be self cleaning hahaha

  5. The most popular activity in summer is the oscillating sprinkler. Both our son and the neighbour's children LOVE it - running backward, forward, around, and let's not forget, trying to fiddle with all the settings so the grownups can sit there constantly reminding them not to! (Alex)

  6. The perfect gift for my Mr 2
Outdoor water play is his favourite thing to do
Jumping and splashing in the Dinoland pool
Would be awesome in summer to keep him cool!

  7. Living in Darwin, my kids love anything water-based for play, it's the only way to keep cool outside! Paddling pool, water balloons, water squirters, or just running around in the rain equals lots of fun for them :)

  8. My son loves to play in our yard with his 2 best friends (our dogs) anytime of the year but summer is when he is allowed to play with the hose and sprinkler. The dogs love getting wet and my son just loves playing with the water and soaking them, he finds it rather amusing!

  9. My 2 kids love to play outside with their little tikes pirate ship. Its big enough that they can both play and not fight over the toys. They love playing with it especially with the warmer summer days and enjoy getting soaking wet doing it! My 2 kids would love to be able to play with this dinoland pool as my son loves dinosaurs and my daughter just loves getting wet and wetting her brother!- Rory James

  10. My son has so many water related toys but we had to throw away the pool we had. He'd be delighted to enjoy water play during this hot summer. Something to keep him occupied during the school holiday ;)

  11. We don't often get time to go to the beach during summer so I'd love to be able to give my daughters a fun way to cool off at home, minus the sand! (especially as it looks like we are in for a really hot summer this year) I can just imagine their faces unwrapping this on Christmas morning! Thanks! Amanda Kay

  12. We moved house at the start of the year to a house without a pool the kiddies are missing our old pool terribly this would certainly make up for it. Lots of fun

  16. The water slide is under pressure and overworked
It's busting at all the seams.
It's crying out for help to make it through the summer.
This pool could be the angel of its dreams.

  17. We have extended family coming to visit us and whilst my kids aren't big enough yet to enjoy this, I would love to bless the rest of the kids in the family with a fun Christmas Day filled with water fights and water play! It's these things which create precious childhood memories.

  19. My 2 year old water-loving grandson lives in a unit with a backyard just big enough for this "fun factory". I would love to win it for him for summer.

  20. My kids love getting nude and running through the sprinkler. They also like sitting on the sprinkler - I don't love them doing that though :)

  21. We don't have a pool,
so the kids run around in the sprinkler to keep cool!

  22. I wish they made these just a tad bigger so I could have one for me haha. How awesome would a mini wet n wild in your backyard be?!

  23. Our summer storms are beautiful to watch,
but in between the muggy heat turns up a notch.
Our summer is filled with muddy delights,
they do give mums washing machine the frights.
The duck pond fills, no ducks do we see,
scared off for the day by my squealing LEAPING three.
Radio controlled boats the order of the day,
quad biking through puddles keeps boredom away.
Hot and disgusting their home for a clean,
a dinotastic watersaurus would make true their dreams.

  24. I'd love one as we only have a courtyard so no room for a real pool. Miss 3 has made do with a tiny clam shell pool for over 2yrs now and it's just started cracking from sun damage. {Toni Welch}.

  30. We'd love getting out in the yard and enjoying the sunshine but when it's really hot we stay in! This great waterpark play pool would keep us cool and we'd never want to come inside, even on the hottest days! Shannon Wotton

  31. My kids love picking and eating the strawberries they have been growing, even if there not quite ripe.
We turn their sand table into a water table where they can play and splash.
But the thing they enjoy the most is a cooling squirt with the hose.
To all who enter our backyard beware, nobody leaves without getting splashed, chased and soaked! It's great fun on a summers day.

  32. Water play creates precious memories. I turned on a new sprinkler the other day and my thirty five year old daughter said, "That would be fun to run through!". I'd love this for my twin great-niece and nephew so they will remember too. Mary McNamara

  33. I'd love to give it to my two year old god daughter, I love to spoil her rotten and she lost many of her toys in a house fire this year. This would make her so happy!

  34. I'd love this for my boys! A great distraction from screen time. Since our trampoline broke, they are sending me batty!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. My girls love to jump on our trampoline with a sprinkler on to keep them cool.

  36. I'd love to get a pool bigger than the clamshell we currently use for the girls on really hot days, but I don't fancy having to get a pool fence for something that's temporary (NSW pool fence laws are super strict, with good reason!) but at the moment the clamshell definitely does the job (even Dave hops in with them now and then!). My fave water fun though was always the slip n slide, I LOVED that as a kid!

  39. My little girl loves playing with water, she loves to play under the sprinkler, she loves to use the hose and she loves to simply bail water from one item into another - like using a cup to take water from the dogs water bucket to the bucket in her sandpit. She has so much fun being outside and no matter what she does, her little sister follows her around copying everything. Belinda Moxey

  40. When my kids are outside in summer, they don't care what they are playing as long as there is water involved! We don't have a pool, and if the water slide isn't set up, the sprinkler has to be on! Would love to give them something to relax in on the warmer summer days we get here in Tassie!

  47. I'm still a kid, even at 35. I still love water fights in my backyard, running through the sprinklers, or just splashing around at the end of the day in a kids pool. I want to be young (at heart) forever.

  48. My five year old loves nothing more than playing with the hose, our dog chases the water so it always ends up fun and funny, his other obsession is dinosaurs, this would be amazing, thank you for the opportunity, Merry Christmas

  49. The girls had some fun with water balloons today, old school though. With the amount of time it took to fill them compared to how quickly they were all used I will be looking for those bunch o balloons.
