Munich Brauhaus Review. Where Kids Eat For Free This Winter!

Take a trip to Melbourne's Southbank this winter, and you'll find the popular restaurant Munich Brauhaus bustling with life. This venue is the Melbourne home of warming German food and quality entertainment. Better yet, set aside a Sunday to enjoy lunch here with your family, and experience the best of German culture right on your own doorstep. Why Sunday? Sunday is Family Funday at Munich Brauhaus, where you can enjoy fine European entertainment and delicious foods for the whole family, with kids aged 12 and under dining for free!

We were invited along to experience the best of the Sunday fun at Munich Brauhaus just recently. From the moment we walked into this venue, the warmth of the festivities within greeted us with a big, exciting welcome. This venue has all the necessary German 'feels' to warrant its name; there's a live band performing German music, staff are costumed in real German attire, and the food aromas that wafted enticingly in the air as soon as we stepped inside from the cold, gave off an instant sense of traveller's deja-vu. We felt as though we'd been dropped right into the heart of Oktoberfest! (And that's a great feeling!)

Our kids too were immediately thrilled upon entering this exciting atmosphere. Further elation followed when they were each handed activity packs at the door. At Munich Brauhaus, every child under 12 receives a special activity bag packed with colouring fun, puzzles and crayons to keep them on their best behaviour while we grownups enjoy some German 'time-out.' Just brilliant!

There's a special kids' menu with all their favourites to enjoy too. From mac and cheese to hot dogs and burgers, dessert and soft drinks, the kids' menu options were varied and the servings were very generous. None of our kids managed to finish their big meals though they did enjoy them judging by the amount they consumed! The same can be said for the main menu for adults. Munich Brauhaus offers an extensive menu with serves that are sizeable and appetising.

Hamburger happies for little chappies!
For our own lunch, we chose the dips platter for starters which was so delicious! Pickles, hummus, tzatziki and sauerkraut were all served up with warm, fresh flatbread. These condiments went well with the extensive range of German beers available, (and my own choice of sparkling wine). We also tried out an entree of spicy chicken wings which comes highly recommended if you choose to visit.

For main course, it's always the calamari dish for me! I can never go past this personal favourite which was paired together with fresh aioli for a taste that was magic! For the meat-lovers, Munich Brauhaus is your go-to place. Check out this gigantic meal-for-one platter of German delights which included everything from pork belly to sausages, schnitzel and salad, served on a bed of mashed potato.

Sunday Funday at Munich Brauhaus sees all the best efforts brought to the fore to entertain and impress the kids. In addition to the menu and general entertainment, kids can enjoy having their faces painted by the free kids' makeup artist who will give your child a lunch date to remember.

Munich Brauhaus even provide an animal nursery outside the restaurant for the kids to enjoy. Filled with ducks, rabbits, guinea pigs, baby sheep, lambs and goats, our kids had a ball in here.

Our kids loved the experience of Munich Brauhaus' Sunday Funday, as did we. We highly recommend the experience of a family trip to this exciting restaurant. Sunday Family Funday is in full swing every Sunday between the hours of 12 and 3pm for the winter season and is definitely worth a visit. Remember, every child under 12 eats for free with every full-paying adult. It's a fab deal for families. You can also enjoy Happy Hour between 4-7pm daily.

The kids eat for free offer is available every day of the week this winter.

  5. What fun! Not to mention the delicious food as well. It makes such a difference when restaurants think of family friendly services they can add to the dining experience.
