The Bavarian Restaurant Review. School Holiday Fun For Families and Kids Eat Free!

Looking for somewhere exciting to eat that also fully caters for kids and is a unique dining experience? May we recommend The Bavarian restaurant in Knox as a superb venue of choice for families. Right now during the winter school holidays, kids under 12 eat free with every paying adult, seven days a week! Dining out with your kids has never been more appealing.

We were recently invited to attend The Bavarian restaurant in Knox to experience their delicious German cuisine, on-tap European beers and children's entertainment. This restaurant is an absolute stand-out venue for families in so many ways.

We arrived early, prior to our lunchtime booking, so that we could capture some images of the 'bones' of this fab restaurant.

Welcome to Bavaria!
A warm, semi-outdoor beer garden with heating and winter sunlight greets diners on entry.

Take a day out of your regular routine and visit the beer ('bier') halls of Bavaria, Germany. There are a myriad of true Euro beers to try and they're all on tap, served extra large for your enjoyment, as is the German tradition. Long tables and benches reminiscent of Oktoberfest, allow diners to enjoy the company of family and friends in an authentic and relaxed atmosphere.

The variety of dining areas available allows visitors to choose between a more intimate or social setting.
Start your meal with your choice of beverage from the large drinks menu. There's plenty on offer including an extensive schnaps selection. For us, Chandon and several giant, 500ml authentic glass steins of fantastic German lager (or biers), were selected and thoroughly enjoyed. Our kids were fully catered for too, with food and drink options on their very own 'kinder' menu for kids under 12.

With everyone happily seated and settled with something to drink, the kids were quick to discover the quality activity books and crayon packs on our table, and got to work on these while we relaxed into our afternoon.

Free activity books and crayons kept the kids quiet and engaged.

While we're on the subject of kids, the kids' menu at The Bavarian is excellent! There are regular kid options presented with a German twist. Meals are huge and include children's favourites such as (very large) German style hot dogs, chips and crumbed chicken, burgers etc. Our children continued to enjoy their mega-lunches while we tucked-in to our entree and mains in a perfectly relaxing afternoon filled with food and family time.

A tasty side order of Mac and Cheese Balls - blue cheese, bacon and mayo to share.

This entree of Spicy Chicken Wings was superb.

Entree of Spicy Squid is ideally sized and delicious.
Mains at The Bavarian are very substantial and equally delicious. These are meals which are ideal for cold climates and are sized accordingly. We were treated to schnitzels and muscles. There were lashings of potatoes, fresh steaming vegetables and sides of crusty bread and sauces. Absolutely stunning eats on a cold winter's day.

Your kids will be as thrilled as ours with the face-painting princess who entertained our children while we enjoyed our meals. This lovely girl also made exciting balloon animals and swords for our boys which delighted them for the rest of the day.

The Bavarian is associated with Munich Brauhaus, yet provides a more relaxed and casual setting which is so chill. The menu is authentically German and appeals to all ages with, (in our opinion), reasonable, mid-range prices for fantastically large servings. The Bavarian hosts regular live sports screenings with a particular emphasis on live UFC broadcasts at their Knox venue to attract sporting enthusiasts. Diners can also visit for daily Happy Hour and experience weekly special offers.

For an authentic German 'experience' that's close to home, you can't go past The Bavarian for a fun family day out these school holidays.
