Gumbuya World Review - Exciting New Worlds To Discover and A Whole Lot of Family FUN!

The school holidays may have sped by at their usual 'gone too quickly' pace, but let's not forget that summer is still here and the warm days will remain for quite a while yet. While the sun is still pumping the heat and the feel-good summer mood is high, make sure you take a super-fun family day trip to Gumbuya World to experience the thrills of this combined water park / theme park.

It's a totally out-of-this-world experience!

If you delight in Queensland's famous theme parks, then Gumbuya World will equally thrill you with its rides, water slides, pools and animal experiences. It's all here down south and just 50 minutes from Melbourne's CBD in Tynong, Victoria.

There are four fantastic worlds of adventure to discover at Gumbuya World. Each is packed with fun and caters to all ages.

For maximum family entertainment in the water, visit Oasis Springs where the best of the biggest, fastest slides and fun-filled pools for both kids and adults reside. Oasis Springs is Gumbuya World's top draw card and the pleasure to be had here is literally guaranteed to last all day.

For top-notch excitement, ride the giant water slides in Oasis Springs. Left: the Taipan (green slide).
Right: (yellow slide), Boomerango. Height and weight restrictions apply.

There are recent upgrades to Gumbuya World which have taken this theme park to the next level. There's a new slide - the Red Belly Racer, a fast and exciting quad-slide which invites riders to race to the end, face-first and on their stomachs. Kids love this one for its exciting challenge but so will grown ups. (See image below.)

For leisurely fun with gentle excitement, head to the Lazy River and Rapids. Jump on your own pool tube (there are plenty available), and relax as the current pulls riders along this large winding pool. There are periodic gentle waterfalls plus a section of waves to ride which are hilariously exciting. (Also a great place to socialise with other smiling visitors - it happens every time!)

The Lazy River and Rapids is a personal highlight every time we visit!

The Red Belly Racer. An exciting new race attraction for visitors to Gumbuya World.

Also recently unveiled at the park is The Break. The Break is a virtual beach pool with a stunning Pacific blue hue. Swimmers of all ages can enjoy this multi-depth lagoon with periodic waves. For maximum excitement, grown-ups can head into its depths and experience the bigger breaks. For smaller kids and the less adventurous, hover at the shoreline where the smaller waves break. It's just like a real beach!

The Break gets a thumbs-up from the kids for its beach-like experience without the discomfort of sand and salt.
Sunscreen is a must in this pool as it is highly reflective. (We got burnt. Learn from our mistake!)
In addition to the pools featured in our images, for kids (and adults) there's the sensational playground pool known as Typhoon Island. Smaller water slides leading off this big water playground are regularly drenched by a giant tipping bucket of water which fills and pours in approximately ten minute intervals. Plus book in to enjoy Surf's Up where you can ride the infinity wave in a purpose built pool. Surfboards are supplied for riders. (Bookings are essential.)

Be aware that Gumbuya World does not permit visitors to bring their own food or drinks into their park with the exception of your own refillable water bottle. If you prefer to BYO, our advice is bring your own Esky and leave it in your car. Either eat before you enter the park or grab a pass-out to picnic by your vehicle. Your wrist band issued upon entry will allow you to come and go as you please.

That said, there are many eateries at Gumbuya World that offer a wide array of foods and snacks. Queues tend to move quickly and we found the quality was high and the prices, reasonable. Also there are plenty of places to enjoy your eats - from sit-down dining to poolside banana lounges (there are hundreds), and grassy expanses of parkland to enjoy and relax.

Poolside favourites like fish and chips and pizza are popular choices at Gumbuya World.
Healthy options are also available for purchase.
Feel like a break from the water? Visit the Wildlife Trail to experience Australia's unique fauna. Gumbuya World has over 52 species to discover. You can also pay extra to experience the animals in up-close encounters with a park ranger.

Also visit Outback Explorers for theme park rides including train rides, a roller coaster and more - if you can find the time!

There are many popular photo points to collect memories.

Gumbuya World is a work in progress with new attractions in the pipeline. If you've never visited, (or it's been a while), you must make time for a day here. Gumbuya World is sensational. We can't wait to visit again!

Our Tips for a top visit to Gumbuya World:

Take sunscreen and re-apply regularly.

Wear your bathers to the park (to save time), and take a hat and towel plus thongs and a camera.

There are designated places to store your immediate possessions when riding slides but these are not secure. For valuables, hire a locker for the day.

Arrive early to beat the crowd - and it will get crowded, especially on sunny, hot days. Find park hours here.

There is plenty of parking and seating available to accommodate visitors. Again, arrive early to nab yourself the best positions by the pool. Alternatively, book yourself a cabana for shade and poolside luxury.

Pass outs and lockers are available. (Lockers are an additional fee.)

There are drinking taps, plenty of shaded areas, toilets and change rooms for visitors, also foods and snacks. Remember to stay hydrated!

For ticket information and opening hours and any additional information such as parties and events, visit the Gumbuya World website.
Purchase of an annual pass is highly recommended as you will want to visit again and again.
