Drummer Queens Live Review...

It has been an excessively long wait for theatre to return since the Covid 19 lockdown in 2020. With the long drawn-out recovery that ensued, the theatre industry is finally back and blazing for a stellar 2021. We took our first excited steps into the Comedy Theatre here in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago, for the red carpet premiere of Drummer Queens...

The Drummer Queens are a percussive group consisting of eight extraordinarily talented female musicians. These gals thump-out their thunderous beats in a highly memorable, 80 minute, booming extravaganza.

This show is loud, strong, impressive and unique.

These performers don't limit themselves to just drumming on actual drums either - expect high points accentuated by 'body-drumming theatrics' including touches of acrobatics and creative dance - all performed in a show that doesn't miss a beat!

For the opening night, the lights, vibes, red carpet and celebrities were out on cue for the Drummer Queens premiere in Melbourne. Fresh from Sydney, the Drummer Queens left a lasting impression on their first audience down south.

The Drummer Queens is set in an industrial-style stage. Audiences will experience the thrill of drums from around the world in this ever-evolving performance.

"Within the heart of every culture there exists the beat of the drum. Music around the world has an inherent beat at its core. There's also the rhythmic thumping within ourselves - the heart.
It is from this centre that the Drummer Queens opens poignantly - with the performers' gentle and profound chest-pounding which serves to remind us of the powerful drum that beats within us all.
Are you listening to the beat of your own heart? The drum itself represents life."

From here explodes a drumming 'story' like you've never experienced before. It is loud, thrilling and difficult to sit still. The aural and visual delights derived from this performance positively enthral.

The Drummer Queens show is outstanding.

Created and composed by Joe Accaria, with creative direction by Nigel Turner-Carroll and choreography by Peta Anderson, the extraordinary Australian cast includes Georgia Anderson, Peta Anderson, Stef Furnari, Niki Johnson, Salina Myat, Lisa Purmodh, Claudia Wherry and Ned Wu, with Sasha Lian Diaz and Astrid Holz as swing performers. Neil Gooding Productions & Repercussions Productions.
