Tips to Make the Perfect Garden For You and Your Family

*A guest post collaboration.

If it has been some years since you revamped your garden – or if you’ve recently moved to a new home – you could be thinking of a complete garden makeover. But if you’ve got family needs to consider too, that could change how you do it. If you’re looking for ideas on how to design and layout your new garden that will suit all the family, here’s some suggestions for you to play with.

Take the inside out.

If spending your free time with your family is on top of your agenda, then perhaps it’s time to take the inside outdoors. Everyone is keen on bringing a bit of nature into the home, but equally you could move mealtimes and your evening entertainment outside.

It could be as simple as setting up an outdoor dining or lounge area, enjoying the garden as you all sit around the table or relax on comfy seating. How nice will it be to enjoy the fresh air and flora all around you?

Or it could be something a bit more high-tech, with an outdoor cinema space. This will need a bit more planning with some cover, projector screens and an outdoor plug socket to consider. However, it’s the ideal space to enjoy as a family.

Let your kids run wild.

Kids are bundles of endless energy, so there needs to be a bit of space where they can run wild. An area with play equipment is one way to provide this, but there are other things you can factor into your garden too. Outdoor easels, mini climbing walls, mud kitchens and super-sized outdoor games are great for adding into your new garden design.

On the other hand, if you want to keep your kids a bit quieter, then wildlife gardens, dens and treehouses, and sensory gardens are also good ideas for learning and play.

Give yourself some space.

Whilst you want a good space for all your family to enjoy, there’s no harm in creating a bit of adult space too. You could section off a small portion of your garden to create a ‘secret garden’ that’s just for you. A sneaky space to enjoy a cuppa and a good book. Or simply drift off.

Alternatively, you might want to create a flexible space that’s ideal for the family during the day and just for adult socialising in the evening. And an outdoor bar is perfect for this.

How do you like to use your garden space?
